The word genius is used too often these days, but he was most definitely one of them

Cant see the link, but was Happy Families the one where Ade had to track down his siblings for Jennifer Saunders?

Jaan

Fucking ace! Still the funniest episode of any sitcom I have ever seen. The play off between Mayall and Broadbent is fucking brilliant.

"Fucking Helllll..! A line from the play...!"

"Shut up, all of you! Shut up, or we'll never get out of South-fucking-hampton!"

"If you've got anything bad to say about Felicity Kendall, you say it to me first!"

Brilliant. I'm laughing just thinking about it...

I am a massive Rik Mayall fan and there are some great memories of his performances here.

However, I will say and have always said that the best I saw of him was in episode 3 of Happy Families, that forgettable Ben Elton sitcom from 1985 that has never been repeated. It's mostly rubbish, except episode 3.

Rik plays the nazi priest in a french village who is also a massive pervert and is jealous of the local poet (brilliantly played by Jim Broadbent) who has lots of innocent young girls living with him as he is a 'genius'. But he is also just trying to shag them.

This is about half of the episode, on youtube, across 2 videos. Do yourself a favour and watch it. It was never repeated nor released on DVD but the full episode doesn't appear to be anywhere

Well if you had the common decency, to go out and get yourself a proper job, and not hang around the flat all day like some vast slug, then perhaps I would have the opportunity to take my top off and wash it without the risk of you seeing my nipples!

Rik: Neil, is it really necessary for you to have the light on while your'e in the bath?.

Neil well, yeah.

Rik. Why, what do you plan to do, photosynthesise?.

Makes me laugh.
And the trivial persuit episode where he keeps asking Eddie for a little more when its a one word answer that Ed has already given.

It was FR&C, the trivial pursuit episode.

Could have been. But essentially Young Ones, Filthy and Bottom are the same thing, so I won't lose much sleep about which of them it is.

Yes Gavros, loved that film as a kid but it didn't age particularly well. He wasn't designed for Hollywood

Anyone recall seeing his one foray into Hollywood, Drop Dead Fred?
